BCMJ Reports on M.D. Confidential in Jan/Feb Issue

The British Columbia Medical Journal has written about Dr. Matrick’s 2020 book on mental health, M.D. Confidential: It’s All Very Hush-Hush in its January February 2021 issue:

In this collection of short stories, Dr Lawrence Matrick explores the topic of mental illness and how it is perceived in society. Our mental health is just as important as our physical well-being, so why is it kept so very “hush-hush”? Dr Matrick’s stories examine this phenomenon and how it affects those whose mental health is in jeopardy.

The book features a series of stories about mental illness that are designed to both illustrate and educate: the uncertainty of a family facing their father’s progression into Alzheimer disease, the terror of a young man combating PTSD, and the redemption of a young woman given the care and resources she needs to overcome a substance use disorder.

Readers will learn the medical/psychiatric facts of each condition, the challenges faced by loved ones in each circumstance, and the resources available to them from professionals in the psychiatric industry.

Royal College Writes About Dr. Matrick

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons has once again written about Dr. Matrick .  In a section called “New on the Bookshelf”, Dr. Matrick discusses his latest work, The Madhouse

Below is an excerpt from the entire interview which can be read by following this link

Why will your book interest readers?

The public is becoming more aware of the devastating effects of mental illness on families and throughout society. Physicians and all those in the health field must be more cognizant of mental illness and the diagnosis, therapies and treatment modalities now available to the individual, the parents, families and the community.

BestThrillers.com Rates the Madhouse, ‘One of the Year’s Best Thrillers’

Best Thrillers has called The Madhouse, Dr. Lawrence Matrick’s new book, “one of the year’s best thrillers” for 2019.

Best Thrillers goes on to write that The Madhouse is “a gritty tour-de-force medical thriller that showcases both the wonders and horror of 20th-century medicine.

The Madhouse is the story of New Orleans native Alex Gage, who struggles out of poverty to become not only a respected psychiatrist, but also an aspiring reformist. The story begins in the deep south as Alex is born with a clubfoot that keeps him from being drafted (it would be surgically repaired later in life). Despite his ascension to higher learning, he finds himself working as a physician in a Canadian mental institution – a nightmarish shop of horrors that would make Dante reconsider his definition of hell.”
